Evening Lava Tunnel Tour

The evening tour takes approximately 1 hour and this evening version is ideal to combine with evening activity such as Northern light hunt (in winter), midnight sun tour (summer) or dinner along the south coast. Thousands of years ago, a massive volcanic eruption forced tons of molten lava through the earth, forming a 1.300 metre long lava tube. This is one of the longest lava tubes in Iceland and is commonly known as Raufarhólshellir. Exploring the cave is an experience you‘ll never forget. Our guests get the opportunity to witness the inner workings of a volcanic eruption, as they follow the flow path of the lava as it forced its way through the earth all those centuries ago. On this evening tour, an experienced guide takes you approximately 350 meters into the lava tunnel on a path made out of lava rocks and platforms. A sophisticated lighting in the cave allows you to explore its magnificent geological formations in an easy manner.
