Tour Itinerary: First, your expert northern lights guide will collect you from your selected pick-up location in a minibus. You’ll then be transported to Raufarhólshellir lava cave, 45 minutes outside of Reykjavík, where you’ll admire the fascinating lava formations and colors on an hour-long excursion. We’ll walk around 350 m into the cave (900 m / 2952 ft in total)! This is the same tour as our standard tour in the daytime. The cave is lit up by an award winning lighting setup which means and you can enjoy its beauty no matter the time of day. Next, you will explore some of Iceland’s beautiful landscapes in search of the Northern Lights. Our guides take photos every time the Northern Lights are spotted, so you’ll get your photograph taken with the Aurora Borealis. We’ll enjoy hot chocolate while admiring the sky.

The Lava Tunnel is an ideal place to see the Northern lights due to its location away from light pollution. And if weather conditions at The Lava Tunnel are cloudy its central location means that the norther lights guide can easily take you on in the best direction to seek our clear skies. Please note that seeing the northern lights can never be guaranteed as this depends on both weather and northern lights activity. This tour will operate regardless of the chances of seeing the northern lights. The great thing about this combo is that even if you are not able to see the northern lights you will still enjoy a fun activity during the evening. If the northern lights are not seen, you will be able to retry for the northern lights part of the tour another evening.

The Lava Tunnel and Northern lights combo is easy for most guests. The Lava Tunnel Tour requires participants to walk on uneven ground and up and down stairs so it is not recommended for people with knee issues or bad balance.
